Kilskyre/Moylagh v Trim Junior 2 H.C. Monday 24.7.23 at Trim
Final Score: Kilskyre/Moylagh 4.7 Trim 2.13
A draw was probably a fair result in this absorbing and highly entertaining Junior 2 Hurling Championship Round 2 match played in ideal conditions on the excellent Trim pitch on Monday evening. For Kilskyre/Moylagh this was their first match in the campaign as their Round 1 match was deferred owing to the Intermediate team getting a walkover in their Round 1 match whereas Trim already had a victory over Rathmolyon under their belt.
The first half was an evenly contested affair with the sides level on 4 occasions. The sides exchanged points in the opening 5 minutes with Ronan Cunning pointing for the visitors. Kilskyre/Moylagh were awarded a penalty on 8 minutes but Niall Farrelly’s effort was well saved by the Trim goalkeeper. However, from the resultant clearance Farrelly pointed to put Kilskyre/Moylagh ahead. Trim hit the next 2 points but an excellent Jamie Casserly point levelled matters again in the 16th minute. Trim then hit 2 points in succession but Farrelly replied with 2 for the visitors – 1 from a free – to level the game again. Trim regained the lead in the 26th minute but from the puckout the visitors attacked and Simon Deevey got on the end of the move to net and Cunning added a point in the 29th minute to leave Kilskyre/Moylagh ahead 1.6 to 0.6 at the interval.
The second half started with the sides exchanging goals – Trim goaled in the second minute to level the match but Kilskyre/Moylagh struck back with an Emmet Hallinan goal to regain the lead. Farrelly pointed a free in the 5th minute to extend the lead to 4 points. Trim replied with a point but then Ronan Cunning struck for a goal in the 9th minute and the visitors led by 6 points. Trim then hit a purple patch from the 11th to 24th minutes hitting 1.4 without reply to lead by 1 point with 6 minutes remaining. It might have been more but for some heroic defending by the visitors and some excellent saves from Charlie Usher in the goals. Kilskyre/Moylagh then rallied and had chances to take the lead and eventually did in the 28th minute when Simon Deevey hit his second goal to give his side a 2-point lead. However, Trim rallied in the final minutes and hit the final 2 points of a great game to secure the draw.
