A severely depleted Kilskyre/Moylagh side earned a deserved draw in their opening Division 3 Hurling League campaign at Killyon on Sunday last with a last-minute Willie McGrath free. The visitors had trailed by 8 points with 20 minutes to go so will be satisfied to have got away with a draw.
The first half was evenly contested with the sides level on 4 occasions before the hosts scored 3 of the last 4 scores to lead by 0.10 to 0.8 at the break. Willie McGrath with 4 frees, the returning Ronan McGuinness after an injury plagued 2022 with 2 points from play and Killian McCaffrey and Charlie Usher with a point apiece accounted for the visitors scores.
Killyon made an excellent start to the second half and shot the first 6 points all from play to stretch their lead to 8 points with 20 minutes remaining. Kilskyre/Moylagh then launched a comeback and a Willie McGrath goal from a free in the 19th minute had the gap down to 4 points. Further points from Jamie Casserly, substitute Paddy Briody and Kevin Foley had the deficit down to 1 with 8 minutes left. The final minutes were nip and tuck but a late McGrath free gave the visitors a hard-earned draw.
