Kilskyre/Moylagh v Drumree Billy Byrne Cup Quarter Final 13.6.23 at Kilskyre
Final Score: Kilskyre/Moylagh 1.12 Drumree 1.10
Despite hitting 17 wides over the hour Kilskyre/Moylagh advanced to the semi-final of the Billy Byrne Cup with this hard-earned victory over Drumree in what was a tough and uncompromising match played in sweltering conditions at Kilskyre on Tuesday evening last.
The sides were evenly matched in the opening 20 minutes at which stage they were level 0.4 each. Daire Shine (2), Willy McGrath after a fine Eoin Briody run and Tom Shine from a free accounting for the home sides tally at this stage. Further points in the run in to the break from McGrath (1) and 3 frees from Tom Shine gave the home side an 0.8 to 0.4 lead at the interval.
As happened the previous week in their league match with Rathmolyon the hosts conceded a goal and a point in the first 2 minutes after the resumption which left the sides level. A well taken Ronan McGuinness goal in the 6th minute put Kilskyre/Moylagh 3 points up but Drumree rallied and the sides were level after 20 minutes at 1.10 each. A Tom Shine free in the 22nd minute and a Charlie Usher point from the right wing in the 28th minute gave the home side a 2-point advantage. Thanks to some great defensive work by the hosts and some poor shot options by the visitors Kilskyre/Moylagh held on for the victory.
A brief “exchange of pleasantries” involving some players from both sides at the final whistle resulted in a Kilskyre/Moylagh player receiving a red card from the referee.
