Kilskyre/Moylagh v Gaeil Colmcille Div. 3 HL Sunday 14.5.23 at Ballinlough
Final Score: Kilskyre/Moylagh 0.11 Gaeil Colmcille 1.12
A good start is half the battle according to an old proverb. This was certainly the case on Sunday last as Gaeil Colmcille’s goal and a point scored from play in the first 4 minutes ultimately was the difference at the end of a hard fought and free ridden Division 3 Hurling League Round 5 match played in Ballinlough on Sunday afternoon. The winners in fact would only score 1 further point from play with their other 10 points coming from placed balls.
The first half started with that fine opening by the visitors who were playing into a stiff breeze but Kilskyre/Moylagh worked their way gradually back into the game and helped by some fine long range free taking by goalkeeper Derick Muldoon were level by the 20th minute at 0.6 to 1.3. However, Gaeil Colmcille then hit 3 points from placed balls to a solitary reply from a Muldoon free to lead 1.6 to 0.7 at the interval.
The second half was keenly fought but free ridden and Gaeil Colmcille always managed to keep their noses in front from frees despite fine points from play by Ronan McGuinness, Kit Og Lynch and substitute Jamie Casserly for the home side. The goal that the home side sought never came as the visitors defended resolutely and 3 wides from frees at crucial stages did not help their cause. With 2 games left to play Kilskyre/Moylagh will be seeking major improvements to try and preserve their league status.
