Final Score:  Kilskyre/Moylagh 0.11 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2.13

With some players playing their 3rd or even 4th game in 6 days and with injuries also mounting up it was no surprise that Kilskyre/Moylagh fielding only 5 players from their last Championship match of 2022 suffered defeat at the end of this Division 3 Hurling League refixed Round 2 match played in good conditions and with great commitment from both sides in the excellent Ballinlough grounds on Tuesday evening last.

The hosts opened brightly and led by 0.5 to 0.1 after 17 minutes with Niall Farrelly pointing 3 frees and Derek Muldoon pointing a 65 and a long range free.  Donaghmore Ashbourne after their long journey eventually found their range and with the hosts only adding a Ronan McGuinness point to their tally it was 0.6 to 0.5 in favour of the home side at the break.

The first 10 minutes of the second half were keenly contested and Donaghmore Ashbourne added 3 points with Niall Farrelly pointing a free for the hosts to leave the score 0.7 to 0.8.  There followed a bit of “handbags” involving a number of players and when the dust settled referee Peter O’Halloran to the surprise of most decided it necessary to issue red cards to 2 players from each side.  Points were exchanged before the referee then awarded a penalty to the visitors from which they goaled to stretch their lead to 4 points.  The game petered out at this stage and despite the best efforts of the home side Donaghmore Ashbourne added a further goal in the 26th minute to seal a deserved victory.
