Final Score: Kilskyre/Moylagh 4.18 Kilmessan 0.13

Kilskyre/Moylagh got their Intermediate Hurling Championship Group B campaign back on track at Kildalkey on Sunday with a deserved win over a gallant Kilmessan outfit. Following the disappointing Round 2 loss to Gaeil Colmcille and also the absence of prolific forward Willie McGrath the Kilskyre/Moylagh team management had to make a number of alterations to their line up and these had the desired effect with much greater commitment and energy on display.

Kilmessan opened the scoring with a point almost straight from the throw in. Daire Shine levelled in the 2nd minute and by the 5th minute Kilskyre/Moylagh led by 0.4 to 0.1. The decisive score of the first half arrived in the 8th minute when following a quick puck out Oisin McDermott’s shot from near half way bounced wickedly in front of the Kilmessan keeper and ended up in the net. This goal gave the eventual winners a cushion they would never relinquish. Kilskyre/Moylagh kept the scoreboard ticking over and their second goal arrived in the 26th minute when Daire Shine netted following a lengthy Sean Geraghty run and pass. At half time Kilskyre/Moylagh led by 2.10 to 0.7.

The second half was evenly contested until the 13th minute when another Sean Geraghty pass found Daire Shine in space and he crashed the ball to the net. Two minutes later Shine claimed his hat trick when he netted following some defensive hesitancy. Kilskyre/Moylagh continued to press and with the defence making some excellent clearances Tom Shine hit some nice points from play and placed balls.

Others to impress in a much-improved display for the winners were Michael Geraghty, Jimmy Boyle, Killian McCaffrey and Paddy Briody.
